Math:
Students build a concrete foundation in number sense, multiplication, division, fractions, tables, ratios, and percentages. Math is taught using stories, pictures, and equations. Students are consistently taught to link their math lesson to real-life scenarios.
Character:
Students are learning about Biblical characteristic and how to implement them in their lives. Students practice their auditory skills by listening to stories about animals and Biblical characters that embody a specific chracteristic. Students transfer the auditory information into a visual by sketching while listening. Students then discuss the characteristic learned and present their visual. At the end of each unit, students write about the characteristic and how they will apply it to their lives.
Reading:
Students gain phonic, comprehension, and fluency skills during reading class. Students complete units that include listening to audio books, reading in small groups, independent reading, whole class novel study, reading genres such as myths, legends, and tall tales. Throughout the entire school year, the class will be working on increasing vocabulary, being able to retell a story, and creating a visuals of stories.
Grammar:
Students are learning how to identify and implement grammar rules and parts of speech during grammar class. Students use card games, word sorts, and visual markings to learn grammar skills.
Visualization and Verbalization:
Many students struggle in implementing visual and verbal describing skills while reading, writing, and speaking. This class equips students with the skills to mentally picture and describe words, sentences, paragraphs and stories. Students learn how to describe what, where, when, perspectice, background, size, color, sound, and number.
Writing:
Students learn how to descriptively write about topics from Character, History, Leadership, and Reading classes and incorporate skills from Grammar class.
Logical Reasoning:
Students apply verbal and auditory skills while playing literacy games and activities.
