FAMILIES

PART OF YOUR EXTENDED FAMILY

Our desire at TLE Academy is to be a united front in educating your child. That is why we have made an effort to share what is in our hearts. If you want to understand more, please contact us. If what we have told you resonates with you, the first step to your child’s success is taken. The next will, we hope, be a nice (disconfirming) experienced:

Parent – Teacher Conferences

Our Parent Teacher conferences is another “disconfirming” experience as it in the past often has been a difficult time for parents. We hope to see you at least three times every school year to go over the situation. We want to share what we have seen, and get your feedback: what is your approach/experience, how can we coordinate our efforts, how can we communicate better – they are a working sessions for us together to find a winning solution, if one is needed. This is not a session where parents are to listen and leave, this is a time together to sharpen our strategy.

MAKE AN IMPACT AT TLE

We need you to be an active participant/supporter of TLE Academy. We need your support to make TLE Academy a school of choice. You can contribute by giving of your time, knowledge, supplies, or money. Here are some of examples:

Time: Pre and Post care, supervise test taking, supervise pick-up, various administrative tasks, PIE activities, buy supplies (we reimburse you), include us in your prayer time.

Knowledge: coach a student in your profession, guest speaker to all students, assist at school administrative tasks

Things: school supplies – see posted supply needs, library books,

Money: State Tax advance loan (HB1133), Tax free donation (we are a 501c3 company)

A SINGLE MISSION:
EQUIP EACH STUDENT FOR LIFE

At TLE Christian Academy we create an accepting, safe and loving environment, where students are taught the way they learn, at a pace they can assimilate, by supporting staff and friends, and with a clear focus on long lasting values, equipping them for life.

FAMILIES Q & A

Q. What are your hours?

A: We open TLE at 7:15am and close at 6pm. School begins with worship at 8:30am and ends at 3:30pm. Lunch is served from 11:45am - 12:15pm when we begin afternoon worship.

Q: Do you have before and after care?
A: We open the school at 7:15am and close at 6.00pm. For elementary students we provide pre-care (for those arriving before 7:45am) and post-care (after 3:45pm) for a fee. Daily charges are: $10 if picked up by 5pm. $15 if picked up between 5pm - 5:30pm. If picked up after 5:30pm, the charge is $15 plus $2 for each additional 5 minute increment past 5:30pm.

Q: What is a typical day like for an elementary student?
A: We begin the morning with worship and circle time. The morning activities are very Montessorian. Each student selects the area of his or her interest in math or English. This is then followed by time at the park and Social Science before lunch. We have a family style lunch served by one of our high or middle school students. The afternoon classes are character, game/more park and science. Students end the day by writing in their journals and doing their choice of chores.

Q: What about homework?
A: We rarely give homework to elementary students, we would prefer that you spend time talking to your child about the day, play a game or read a book. This can also be said about middle school students unless they have a remedial need, which requires extra study. The closer students get to high school the more home work is expected. High school students are expected to spend at least two hours in home work a night, split up in 30 minute + sessions in: reading, math homework/IXL, science, foreign language

Q: Do you offer tutoring?
A: We do provide tutoring as part of the school curriculum on an ad-hoc basis or as a group when arranged by the teacher prior to a test. If a student requires extensive tutoring, it may be an option to put him/her in a less challenging course. At TLE Academy, we train for mastery and thus encourage students to take the level he/she feels most comfortable with to achieve mastery prior to move along.

Q: Do you offer summer school?
A: Our summer school consists of individual sessions tailored to your students need, whether it be a high school credit or firming up the foundation in a subject, and your schedule availability.

Q: SAT and PSAT?
A: Yes, we do offer SAT/PSAT training as an Independent study or tutoring in conjunction with student's own study often with books supplied by TLE Academy. PSAT is offered at the TLE Academy each fall, while SAT will be taken by the student at his/her own preference.

Q: Does the school accept IEP students?
A: Yes, we do. TLE Academy will take care of all reporting to Department of Education. We ask you to give us a copy of the psychological report at time of admission together with a copy of the calculator. Once enrolled TLE will take over the reporting.

Q: Communicate with teachers/teacher conference?
A: We have an open door policy. If you have questions or want to talk to a teacher, we would prefer you schedule a meeting if it will take more than a few minutes. If not, just come in and see us at drop off and pickup. We want to hear your input.
